London Replaces The Global Gambling Hub Macau As The City With The Highest Number Of Five-Star Hotels

Global gambling hub, Macau, is no longer the city with the highest number of five-star luxury hotels. According to the Forbes Travel Guide 2019, London has taken over Macau as over the past year several new five-star facilities were developed in the English capital city. The Travel Guide shows London topping the chart with 13 highly luxurious hotels while Macau settles second with 12.

The new five-star hotels including the Bulgari Hotel & Residences; the Langham; Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park; and Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard have made London the city with the highest number of luxury five-star hotels.

Amongst the new joiners to the club of five-star restaurants are Mizumi at Wynn Palace, Sichuan Moon by Andre Chiang and Wing Lei Palace. Robuchon au Dôme and Pearl Dragon at Star Tower at Studio City Macau.

The number of five-star hotels globally has also increased. Earlier, in their travel guide, Forbes had awarded five-star accreditation to 199 hotels globally in 2018, which has risen to 210 this year.

According to Forbes, they have professional industry experts who visit these luxury facilities and rate them on five hundred different criteria. Both the quality and the service that the hotel provides to its guests is taken into account, and the scores are quantified.

Filip Boyen, CEO, Forbes Travel Guide said in a statement earlier this week, “ “Our objective, data-driven star rating list features properties that achieved an impeccable standard of excellence in hospitality.”

“Discerning travelers can trust that each winner is the best of the best. We are pleased to honor the 2019 Star Rating recipients, an exceptional collection of hotels, restaurants, and spas dedicated to guest service.”

This year the Forbes Travel Guide also made an addition in the destinations which includes properties in Anguilla, Bahrain, Belize, Danang, Doha, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, Istanbul, Oman, Perth, Tel Aviv, and the Swiss Alps.
This year 21 new five-star hotels, 49 new four-stars hotels, and 62 new hotels will also be featured in the “Recommended” category.
