Swedish Gaming Regulator Fines Operators For Non-Compliance

Genesis Global and PAF Consulting Corp are fined by the Spelinspektionen, gaming, and gambling regulatory authority in Sweden. The fine comes as the two companies fail to comply with Sweden’s new law requiring all gaming and gambling companies with a license to operate in Sweden to follow the self-shutdown registry.

The new law has been active in Sweden since 1 January 2019. The authority has been receiving complaints from players who said that they have been able to play with these operators although they had already shut down in the register.

Following the complaints, the Gaming Inspectorate initiated an investigation and has now slammed a fine on both the operators for non-compliance. Both Genesis Global Limited and PAF Consulting corporation have been warned and will have to pay a penalty of SEK 4,000,000 and SEK 100,000 respectively.

Genesis and PAF provide games on many sites in Sweden. However, according to the revised legislation, the players who join “Spelpaus” automatically turn themselves off from participating in any online casino, or online roulette or other games provided by the operators holding licenses in Sweden.

The companies are also not authorized to send direct marketing emails to those who have turned themselves off.

Earlier this month the Swedish gambling authority Spelinspektionen had also said that they will bring stricter policy towards gambling advertisements and the companies that do not comply may also see their licences revoked.
