Sweden’s popular gambling operator, Svenska Spel, has gone a step ahead to ensure high standards of consumer protection. The company is going to pull all its online casino ads which means from now onwards there will be no casino product advertisement online from the company.
The sharp move is said to impact the company’s various marketing campaigns including those running on Television, on the internet, and in the print media.
Earlier this year, Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen had issued new guidelines related to gambling and casino advertisements. The regulator had said that the casino operators should comply with gambling regulations or may face a penalty and even administrative action.
Moreover, a recent study found that the number of women getting addicted to gambling in the country has sharply risen in the past few years.
While the company officials said that they had already been very responsible with advertising their gambling products and had put certain limits, after “intensive internal discussions” they have decided to put an end to any online advertisement of their casino products. The company cites consumer protection as its top priority.
The company also said that the motivation to take such a step to stop all their online casino advertisements was inspired by the findings of a study by the country’s Public Health Authority, which said that the online casino sector made the Swedish gamblers most vulnerable.
