MGM Partners With Orix For Integrated Resort License In Japan

With Japan seeking applications for an integrated casino license in Osaka, MGM has announced its partnership with ORIX a Japanese company to officially submit its application.

To begin with, Japan is going to issue three integrated casino license. As the Asian gambling and casino market is expanding, gambling companies from across the world are trying their best to get an entry into Japan by securing a casino license.

Las Vegas Sands Corp, Galaxy Entertainment and the Genting Group from Malaysia are amongst the top gambling companies applying for the casino license. The marketing firms have posted very positive reports about the prospects of the emerging gambling market in Japan. It is expected that Japan’s casino would be competing with Macau, the global gambling hub.

In his statement to the press, Ed Bowers, CEO of MGM Resorts Japan said: “We are hoping to see many Kansai corporations participate in our business effort, regardless of their size, in order to express the local flavor. Orix is an excellent company deeply rooted in Kansai. Their passion really stood out in their research and study of an IR which makes them an ideal partner.”

Earlier towards the end of April, in an official announcement, Osaka declared that they are open to proposals from operators for the much awaited and coveted Integrated Casino License.

While the site allotted for the IR is a sprawling 49-hectare piece of land on the artificial island Yumeshima, operators seeking a license should develop an integrated resort with an international conference center having a capacity of over 6,000 guests and also five-star accommodation facilities with a minimum of 3000 rooms.

The project is expected to be complete by 2025.
