Matthew Maddox, CEO, Wynn Resorts has put an end to speculations that claimed that a potential sale deal is brewing for Wynn’s Boston Harbor casino. Wynn Resorts CEO has said that their new casino is not for sale and that it will be welcoming guests as scheduled.
Maddox was addressing in an orientation meeting for the casino employees which was attended by at least 4,800 Wynn employees.
Talking about the CEO’s address to the employees, Wynn Resorts spokesman Michael Weaver said: “Mr. Maddox spoke at each of the events and made that statement at each of the events. It was Matt Maddox to the employees that Encore is not for sale.”
Earlier Wynn Resorts was in talks with MGM, the gaming and hospitality giant, about a potential sale deal. However, citing stakeholders concerns and regulatory restrictions, MGM was quick to announce that they are not considering to purchase the Encore Boston Harbor casino.
According to the state’s gambling laws, no operator can have two casino licenses, and MGM is already operating the Springfield casino.
Commenting on the latest from Wynn CEO, Everett City Councilor Mike McLaughlin said, “I’m very happy to hear that Encore is not looking to sell the development because the people of Everett, as I have said numerous times, want Wynn to develop the casino they supported in 2013.That’s what we voted for, that’s who we accepted. Our partnership has grown into a strong relationship and they feel confident to stay here in Massachusetts. In less than three weeks from now, they will open up the greatest single-phase development in the state of Massachusetts.”
