Armenian member of parliament, Hrachya Hakobyan, from the ruling party, said that the government would increase its control over the activities of casinos and gambling establishments in the country.
He said that the government plans to restrict gambling adverts and that it is not only limited to restricting the whereabouts of the gambling adverts, including the place and time but also the content of the gambling adverts.
“As for online advertising, its banners on news sites should not exceed 20% of the area, and on adolescent, educational and medical websites such advertising will be completely prohibited,” he said.
He also said that the casinos and gambling operators found to be violating the rules would face punitive action.
Earlier, Armenian National Assembly passed the first reading of a bill which calls for limiting the activity of the betting shops in the country.
Armenia is also one of the poorest countries in the region. In recent times, gambling addiction has been on the rise in the country. The new regulation is also aimed at limiting betting options and thus curbing gambling addiction.
