Reports have emerged that online gambling technology services provider firm, SBTech is in talks with DraftKings in relation to an acquisition deal.
While the further details of the deal as in the terms and price is yet to surface, those familiar with the matter have confirmed that there is a strong possibility of DraftKings purchasing SBTech.
DraftKings is strategically expanding itself in the US market. The company is eyeing at the opportunities that have emerged after the US Supreme Court legalized sports betting, last year. Following the Supreme Court’s decision, several US states have legalized and launched sports betting operations within their jurisdictions.
At present works with European company Kambi for its sportsbook and online casino in New Jersey.
Earlier this week, SBTech announced a Melissa Riahei as its new US business head. Riahei brings more than 20 years of experience of working in the executive as deputy chief counsel to the office of the Governor in Illinois, as well as general counsel to the Illinois Lottery.
Also, Oregon Lottery, announced its partnership with SBTech to facilitate sports gambling – both mobile and retail – in the state.
While there were many other names on the table, Oregon Lottery partnered with SBTech after the company not only did fit in the requirements but also has been committed to delivering within the deadline as the state is looking to launch sports betting as early as September.
