William Hill is not accepting wagers from its Swiss customers. The UK-based bookmaker has issued a notice to all its existing customers in Switzerland that the operator is not going to accept any further wagers from mid-day on June 28.
The website emailed the notice to the customers and has cited “regulatory reasons” for not being able to accept any bets. However, William Hill has not mentioned any particular regulatory obligation which led them to this decision.
The company has made the decision easily given a small number of customers in the country. According to an estimate from expert and those familiar with the matter, around 400 bets became void, following the decision.
The Swiss Federal Council recently allowed four casinos in the country to offer online casinos and mobile gambling.
Switzerland has new online gambling regulations in place, following which only licensed gambling operators which have all the necessary permissions would be allowed to operate in the country.
Switzerland is also going to block all overseas online gambling operators and would issue a blacklist from July 1. All internet service providers would be asked to ensure that Swiss customers do not have access to blacklisted online gambling sites.
