The Philippines is all set to launch online casino centers. They are already under construction in Manila, the capital city.
As the gambling industry expands in the country, the gambling regulator is planning to make the most of it with dedicated online gambling hubs.
According to a Bloomberg report, Andrea Domingo, the top official at PAGCOR, referring to the offshore casinos, said that POGO is not going anywhere.
It should be noted that offshore operators operating in the country employ about 138,000 workers, and most of them are from China.
The gambling operators, operating in the upcoming dedicated gambling hubs, will also get exclusive benefits. The companies operating in these hubs would get a five-year license while the others are only entitled to a three-year gaming license.
Domingo also confirmed that the government will even start issuing licenses to POGO workers. “I hope we don’t overtax them, so we don’t lose the good,” she said.
In a change of policy, President Duterte in 2016 consented to award licenses to POGO operators in the country. Since then over 50 operators have been granted a POGO license.
However, as the industry employs mostly Chinese workers, it has also alarmed some lawmakers who have been vocal against this type of gambling expansion.
