While online gambling and sports betting market in Spain is consistently expanding, there has been increasing concerns about rising gambling addiction and promoting responsible gambling.
In a recent move, the Spanish gambling regulator has said that licensed betting operators in the country are prohibited from accepting wagers on games involving underage athletes.
Spain’s Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), the country’s gambling regulator announced that its sports betting licensees “will not be able to include in their program of events those that are played exclusively or predominantly by minors.”
The DGOJ said that the new measure is “based on the best interests of the minor.” The gambling watchdog said that it wants to ensure the “healthy participation” of kids in sports.
Earlier in June, the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), announced its three-year plan for the gambling industry in the country. In its announcement, the gambling regulator emphasized its commitment to social responsibility and ensuring higher standards of compliance and consumer protection.
Online gambling market in Spain is expanding. Moreover, a recent study finds that over 90 percent of Spanish people think that gambling is not a vice and that it is socially acceptable.
