Soon after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered PCSO to close all its operations across the country, the Philippine National Police (PNP) was sworn into action to execute a nationwide drive to shut all PSCO outlets including lotto.
General Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has confirmed that the orders to close lotto outlets and other betting areas for various games have already been given.
“I have directed all Police Regional Offices nationwide to launch a massive crackdown against illegal gambling and arrest anyone who will continue to engage in illegal acts,” said Albayalde in his statement to the press.
“Those businesses that continue to operate in connection with the franchises, licenses, concessions granted by the PCSO are hereby warned to cease and desist from engaging business, following the provisions stipulated in their franchises or face consequences under existing laws,” he added.
Earlier later on Friday, in a video message posted from the Philippine president’s official page shows him ordering “the closure, the stoppage of all gaming schemes of whatever nature, however done, that got their franchises to do so from the PCSO.”
He also said that he would not be entertaining any court order which could halt the closure of PCSO operations.
In Metro Manila, several lotto outlets have also been closed down by policemen who started making the rounds on Saturday morning, reports Manila Bulletin.
Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said that he has given instructions to ensure all lotto outlets are shut and no gambling is taking place.
“As declared by the President, these games are already illegal so we are duty-bound to implement it. There was already an instruction from Chief PNP to implement the closure,” said Eleazar.
