The betting lounges of the tribal casinos are the first to offer sports betting in Central New York.
The launch of sports betting operations was marked by a grand opening ceremony at the Turning Stone casino.
In a statement prior to the launch, Oneida nation leader Ray Halbritter said in a statement that “The Lounge with Caesar Sports will feature the most up-to-date elements in sports betting and cutting-edge technology.”
The Oneida nation runs two casinos in the state – Turning Stone, in Verona, and Point Place, in Bridgeport. They are also planning to open a sports betting lounge later this summer at Yellow Brick Road Casino, in Chittenango.
The Oneida Nation officials have confirmed that all three casinos will be run in partnership gambling giant Caesars Entertainment.
While mobile gambling is yet to be legalized in New York, the customers would have to be physically present at the gambling facility to wager on sporting events.
Joel Barkin, Oneida Nation spokesman said that they have plans to further the business by promoting regional tourism and attract sports betting enthusiasts to the gambling venues.
“Once we bring people to this property, they come back over and over,” Barkin said. “It will bring a high level of energy and a lot of new tourism.”
