The deadline to submit a proposal for Rockford casino has been extended. Gambling operators and companies interested in developing the Rockford casino can now submit their proposals by Friday, August 30 at 2 p.m. Earlier the deadline to submit a proposal was Friday, August 16.
Explaining the move to extend the deadline, the City Council said that their original deadline only provided investors with a 44 days window to draft and submit the proposal which was way below the industry standards. Now with the extended deadline, interested parties will have 58 days to plan and submit their proposals.
The City Council has also said that the extension of the RFP deadline will not influence the city’s ability to review and certify proposals before the application due date.
After Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a massive casino expansion bill last month allowing for six new casinos at different locations in the state and also legalizing sports betting, city of Rockford was the first to request proposals for the upcoming casino.
According to the schedule announced earlier, the city council will evaluate the proposals and send follow-up questions to the interested parties.
Despite the extension of the RFP deadline these dates remain unchanged:
September 16: Evaluation team submits recommendations to City Council
Sept. 23: Public Hearing
By Sept. 30: City Council certifies proposers
Before Oct. 25: Applications filed with Illinois Gaming Board
A local developer and Hard Rock International have already demonstrated their interest and have unofficially shared plans for a Rockford Casino.
