In its efforts to ensure better consumer protection and restrict access to gambling products for the most vulnerable, the UK Gambling Commission plans to require all licensed online casino and sports gambling operators to sign up to the Gamstop self-exclusion system.
Gamstop is a gambling self-exclusion system developed by the Remote Gambling Association. The system allows gamblers to sign-up for a voluntary self-exclusion program. Once signed up the players are automatically restricted from accessing online gambling platforms for up to five years.
The program was first launched in 2018 and has been free to use. As gambling addiction is at an all-time high in the UK, the Gambling Commission is reportedly planning to make all future online casino and sports betting licenses subject to the integration of Gamstop.
The Uk Gambling commission is also planning to bring in new measures to tackle the rising menace of gambling addiction in the country.
Recently, the UK Gambling Commission launched a 12-week consultation on banning credit cards use for gambling and betting products and services.
The consultation program which kicked off on August 14 will run until November 6. It is aimed at gathering information from industry stakeholders about imposing new restrictions on credit card gambling including limiting credit card spending on gambling or banning their use altogether.
