According to the new Hotel and Casino Employee Safety Act (S.B. 75) signed by state Gov. J.B Pritzker, all hotel and casino employees working alone in guest rooms, restrooms or casino floors to be supplied with a safety or notification device at no cost to them.
The new law also protects casino employees against any untoward behavior from their employees if they happen to report or testify the violations of the act.
Sen. Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago), who sponsored the bill said “No one deserves to feel unsafe in their work environment. By following the example of some of the nation’s most populous cities, we will provide a safer and more productive workplace to those who work at these facilities.”
Similar bills have also been passed and enacted into law in New Jersey, New York, Chicago, and Seattle. Moreover, several hotels and casinos have voluntarily made safety devices available to their workers.
Earlier this year, Illinois governor J.B Pritzker also signed a massive gambling expansion bill allowing for the creation of six new casinos at different locations. New Casinos are to be developed in Waukegan, Chicago, Rockford, Danville, Williamson County, and Cook county.
