Atlantic City Casinos Post 13 Percent Increase In Winnings For August

August has proven to be another great month for Atlantic City casinos. According to the figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Atlantic City casinos won 13 percent more than what they did for the same period the previous year. Atlantic City casinos posted a total winning of $339 million for August.

The Borgata casino posted a 4.7 percent year-on-year increase in winnings to $80 million as it had its best summer since the casinos started welcoming guests back in 2003.

The Hard Rock Casino and Hotel picked $41 million to be the second-highest grosser last month. The figures posted by the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel also represent a 31% percent year-on-year increase in winnings.

The newly opened Ocean casino resort grossed $25 million in winnings up 25 percent from the revenue grossed a year earlier.

“We continue to see strong volumes, highlighted by a 42% increase in our slot business” compared with a year ago, said Michael Donovan, Ocean’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer.

“These results show there is a great deal of customer interest in Atlantic City’s offerings,” said James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

In a recent report, nine of Atlantic City casinos posted a decline of 6.8 percent year-on-year decline in profits for the second quarter to June 30.

The only casino which posted a positive uptick in profit for the quarter is the Borgata casino.

The newly opened Ocean Resort Casino expecting to make profits this year posted an operating loss of about $1.2 million for the second quarter.
