Kentucky has been against gambling and it is yet to legalize any form of gambling. During his campaign, Beshear said that if he is elected he would straightaway go for gambling expansion in the state and regulate casinos, sports betting and online poker. He said that with legalized gambling he would channel the additional tax money towards pension programs.
“Expanded gaming is a long-overdue and common-sense way to make Kentucky more competitive and protect the hard-earned pensions of our teachers and first responders,” said Andy Beshear. “While Matt Bevin is making up excuses and false claims, Indiana and our neighboring states continue to steal our revenue. I’ll always put the best interests of our people first — and that includes expanding gaming to create new opportunities here in Kentucky.”
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has been strictly against any gambling expansion in the state. In a recent radio interview, Bevin said that “every night somewhere in America” someone dies by suicide in a casino.
His statement was met with criticism from all corners of the US gaming and gambling industry.
“Every night somewhere in America somebody takes their life in a casino because they’ve wasted the last semblance of dignity and hope that they had,” Bevin said.
“Families are ruined, lives are ruined. There is societal cost.”
