Following the ban, Casumo has been ordered to remove gambling advert which offered free spins and bonuses to people who Googled ways to keep themselves from gambling.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a complaint that said that when he searched on google “How to unsubscribe from all gambling,” what appeared was the Casumo advert promoting the free spin and its gambling app.
The search result was headed: “Welcome bonus to new players Casumo 100% and 20 free spins,” and the advert also invited visitors to “create an account & play now!”
The ASA said: “We acknowledged that on receipt of the complaint Casumo had immediately taken action to address where their ads were served.
“However, because we considered there was a strong possibility that vulnerable consumers seeking to prevent exposure to gambling ads and access to gambling websites might have been served a gambling ad following a search for ‘how to unsubscribe from all gambling’, we concluded that the ad had not been responsibly targeted.”
Earlier in the year, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Dutch gambling regulator slapped a penalty of €310,000 ($348,500) on Casumo. The gambling operator was fined for offering gambling and casino access to Netherlands citizens.
