Japan’s Osaka prefecture has confirmed that it would start the recruitment process for a casino operator to develop the Integrated Resort in December.
Governor, Hirofumi Yoshimura, made the announcement about the formal recruitment process. He also said that the name of the selected operator could be revealed by the first quarter of 2020.
While Osaka was the first to start with an RFP process earlier in the year, it has said that it will soon release its IR implementation policy.
Osaka was the first to launch the “Request For Proposal” (RFP) process following which it also got successful submissions and subsequently announced the names of the gambling operators seeking a casino license.
The five companies that applied for an Osaka casino license are Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts, MGM Resorts, Melco Resorts, and Genting Singapore. Osaka confirmed their participation. Names of two gambling operators were not revealed as they had requested anonymity.
According to Fitch Ratings, MGM is the top contender for Japanese IR license in Osaka.MGM Resorts International, Genting Singapore, and Galaxy Entertainment Group are in the race for a casino license in Osaka.
Melco, Caesars and Vegas Sands have already confirmed that they are no longer pursuing a casino license in Osaka.
