Swiss online gambling enthusiasts and seasoned gamblers will now have more to choose from. The country’s gambling regulator has allowed two more locally licensed casinos to launch online gambling operations.
On Wednesday, the Swiss Federal Council confirmed the extension of gaming licenses of both Grand Casino Kursaal Bern AG and Casino Interlaken AG allowing them to launch online offerings.
Following the approval, the two casinos can now launch online gambling products with clearance for their online gaming products from the Federal Gaming Board.
There 21 locally licensed land-based casinos in the country that can apply to offer online gambling. Following the new regulations which came into effect earlier this year, all online gambling operators that seek to offer online gambling products in the Swiss market must do so in partnership with locally licensed casinos.
Earlier in the year, in June, the Swiss Federal Council approved the license for the online Grand Casino Luzern. For the first time, the Swiss players will have access to an online casino in the regulated Swiss market.
A new Gambling Act in June 2018 was approved by a national referendum in which over 73 percent of the voters voted in favor of regulating the iGaming market.
