Gaming technology and services provider Playtech has inked a “major structured agreement” with Colombia’s leading gambling brand Wplay.
The gaming technology provider confirms the deal and said that they would be a strategic technology partner to the Colombian gambling operator. Following the deal, Playtech would also provide operational and marketing services across Wplay’s retail and digital gambling operations.
Wplay is amongst the leading Colombian gambling brands and was also amongst the first to receive a gambling license by the country’s gambling regulator Coljuego back in 2017.
Wplay operates betting services from over 7,000 points of sale around Colombia.
Commenting on their latest strategic agreement, Playtech CEO Mor Weizer said today that “the strength and quality of the Wplay brand combined with Playtech’s 20 years of technology leadership in the industry will see us drive the online growth of the market in Colombia.”
Wplay President Julio César Tamayo added that in addition to “strengthening Wplay’s leadership in Colombia this agreement will deliver the technology and expertise required to take the market in Colombia to the next level.”
The online gambling market has been constantly expanding in Colombia. And this year the online gambling market has grown by almost two thirds in the first six months.
In its recent report, Colombia’s gambling regulatory body Coljuegos revealed that the state’s share in the online gambling revenue market has jumped by 63 percent year-on-year to COP29.8b (US$8.9m) in the six months ending June 30.
