New Poker Tournament In Support Of Cancer Council Queensland To Debut On The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Calendar

In celebration of this year’s Magic Millions Carnival, The Star Gold Coast will play host to a star-studded Charity Poker Tournament giving guests the opportunity to play alongside the likes of sporting stars and TV personalities including Mike Tindall, Matty Johns, Chris Waller and Liz Cantor.

Hosted by The Star’s Magic Millions ambassador Abbey Way on Friday, 10 January, the event will raise much needed funds for Cancer Council Queensland.

The Star has fast earned the reputation as ‘Queensland’s home of poker,’ having unveiled new state-of-the art Star Poker facilities for Australia’s first World Poker Tour (WPT) tournament in September 2019. Another two new major poker events are on the cards for 2020 – The Australian Poker Open and The Super High Roller Poker Bowl from 24 January to 8 February.

The Star Gold Coast Chief Operating Officer, Jess Mellor, said the iconic property was excited to add to the bumper 10-day Magic Millions Carnival with a glamourous new event giving guests the opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities whilst raising funds for an important cause.

“We’re thrilled to have some of Australia’s biggest sporting stars join us for The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Charity Poker Tournament as we continue our support of Cancer Council Queensland – one of our longestserving community partnerships with a history that dates back 24 years,” Ms Mellor said.

Cancer Council Queensland General Manager, Fundraising Marketing and Communication, Meaghan Bush said the charity was grateful for the long-term support it has received from The Star Gold Coast.

“Cancer Council Queensland has garnered a great relationship with The Star Gold Coast and look forward to partnering on more charity events in 2020,” she said.

“The funds raised from the Charity Poker Tournament will go towards supporting the 29,000 Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer each year.”

The Star Gold Coast is the principal partner and naming rights sponsor for the Magic Millions, the Gold Coast’s biggest racing event, for the second year running cementing its reputation as the premier host of the biggest events on the Gold Coast.
