The number of bets taken by sportsbooks in Indiana has continued the steady trend of a month-by-month increase throughout the end of last year and set yet another record last month.
Despite being relatively new to the legal sports betting market, latest figures show that over $160 USD million (143 million Euro) in total handle was taken in December 2019, up around $14 USD million (12.5 million Euro) from November 2019.
This continues the steady trend increase since sports betting was made legal in The Hoosier State.
The majority of sports bets taken were placed using a mobile platform, which outstripped the retail handle by more than double last month.
Online and mobile betting figures were boosted by the introduction of FanDuel and DraftKings – leading betting firms in the United States gambling market.
DraftKings and FanDuel are the largest fantasy sports betting providers with headquarters in Boston and New York City respectively.
Both providers, along with two other lesser known names in the business accounted for more than 70% of the total bets taken.
Since September 2019, Indiana’s mobile betting industry continued to grow, with December being the strongest month on record since being introduced in October last year.
With such an impressive total handle in a short space of time and still in its birth state, the growth is predicted to continue throughout 2020 and the online sports betting industry is predicted to get stronger in Indiana before it plateaus.
