The English Premier League is only half way through the season.
However according to latest analysis and predictions based on past results; Watford, Aston Villa and Norwich City are predicted to be in the bottom 3 in the league and therefore will be relegated to the English Championship when the season closes.
Despite the gap being only seven points between rock bottom of the EPL table and the safety zone of 17th (currently occupied by Aston Villa), the prediction is not surprising given the way previous seasons have played out.
Aston Villa currently have 21 points from as many games, putting them at a poor record of just one point per game average. Despite spending over £100 million, the club is suffering in its current form and with multiple injured players – including Tom Heaton – Villa’s record signing goalkeeper.
Watford, despite their current run of good form and style of football (of which they have been praised by many pundits), have just 19 points from 21 games. Meaning they have taken just 8 points from the majority of games against teams in the bottom half of the EPL table.
Norwich City, the least surprising team on the relegation list are showing a worrying trend, collecting just 14 points from 21 matches – only 5 of which they have managed to earn away from home.
When making predictions, analysts and pundits look at what has happened in the past and the current safety zone to be in with a chance of surviving relegation is tipped at 40 points from all games when the season closes.
According to bookmakers in the UK on 10th January 2020, the odds being offered confirm grim reading for all three of the above teams: Watford: 6/4, Norwich City: 1/8, Aston Villa: 4/5.
