Athens, Greece has advanced the tender process of building and operating a luxury casino resort in the Greek capital city.
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, based in Connecticut, USA is one company who is looking to win the contract with a proposed partnership with Greek construction company GEK Terna Holding Real Estate Construction.
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, is an extension of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut; a federally recognised tribe and sovereign tribal nation of Mohegan people. The company owns and operates luxury casino resorts around the world including; Mohegan Sun Connecticut, Mohegan Sun Pocono Pennsylvania and Resorts Casino Hotel Atlantic City among others.
GEK Terna is a Greek conglomerate which is listed on the Athens Exchange and specialises in construction, energy and real estate.
It is reported that Hard Rock International’s bid has been rejected as their documents failed to meet financing criteria.
The winning company of the tender will construct and operate a casino in Athens, Greece that will be built on a 1.2 hectare site with over one hundred gaming tables and over one thousand slot machines.
The resort is also proposed to include a luxury hotel, sports centre, conference centre and entertainment venues.
Greece currently has a population of around 10 million, 650 thousand of whom live in its capital city of Athens. The country currently attracts around 25-30 million tourists and is looking to boost revenue and the economy with the development of the luxury casino resort.
