USA – The state of Indiana has cleared the way for citizens to wager on the Oscars, aka Academy Awards in 2020.
Following the announcement that New Jersey will be allowing people to place bets on who will scoop an award for excellence in cinematic achievements this year, Indiana is just the second state to do so.
The Indiana Gaming Commission has today announced that it will allow residents in the region to wager on the ceremony, which takes place on the 9th February 2020 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
It is reported that two of the biggest names in the US betting industry; FanDuel and DraftKings submitted requests to allow the novelty market on their platforms, which attract big numbers in other jurisdictions around the world.
There will be a variety of markets available for punters to place a wager, including; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress, along with a range of other categories such as costume design, visual effects and sound mixing.
Bets have already started flooding in on the Oscars in other countries with 1917 being favourite to take Best Picture, Joaquin Phoenix poised for best actor and the best actress award looking like it’s going to Renee Zellweger.
It is reported that once the market is available, there will be a cap on the maximum bet stake allowed of one thousand dollars amid concerns of a large number of bets.
Johnny Avello, who is the sportsbook director for DraftKings commented:
“The action’s been pretty good so far – but as we get closer, it’ll be the Sunday, during the day when we’ll probably write the most action. I think a lot of people will bet it during the day leading up to the start of the program”.
DraftKings will be keeping a close eye on the Nominees Luncheon, which takes place on the 27th January 2020 as it looks to consistently update the betting odds as the drama unfolds.
