England – Sports betting odds have today been updated worldwide following the majority of the English FA Cup 4th round replays.
After causing a stir in the media this week, the English FA Cup fixtures were scheduled during the controversial winter break of top flight football that saw England’s biggest hitters field weaker, younger sides.
Following six tie’s in the fourth round of the English FA Cup, ten teams took part in fourth round replays with two still yet to play; Tottenham Hotspur versus Southampton.
So far the fourth round replays have resulted in teams; Derby County, Birmingham City, Liverpool, Cardiff City and Newcastle all progressing to the fifth round of The Football Association Challenge Cup, with the winners in with a chance to qualify for the Europa League and FA Community Shield.
Bookmakers have slashed odds on Liverpool winning the cup outright to 4/1 on average, despite fielding a border-line third team with many of their younger players taking the reins at Anfield.
Neil Critchley, Liverpool U23s boss commented on the clubs victory over League One side Shrewsbury Town:
“The maturity that those young boys showed to play that game was remarkable. They actually calmed me on the side and over 90 minutes, I think we had the better chances, and were just about the deserved winners on the night.”
Critchley continued with details in the absence of first team manager Jurgen Klopp:
“The boss was in touch this afternoon with some words of advice and some encouragement, which was really nice of him. I’ve not checked my phone, but we had a message from the staff at the end there saying he’s absolutely delighted with the performance and he’s buzzing. We’ve given him a game against Chelsea to look forward to.”
Manchester City as still the favourites to win the cup at 7/4 on average and Tottenham, who are in action against Southampton at 8/1 odds on average to lift the cup.
Along with outright winner markets, sportsbook’s and online only betting sites have today updated their odds on which four teams will make the semi finals.
Punters are currently able to wager at odds of 40/1 on average on Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool and Manchester City being the semi-finalists.
Odds correct and updated as of 5th February 2020.
