England – Sports betting odds have today been slashed on Jordan Pickford ahead of Euro 2020 as the England number 1 speaks out about his current form and what it’s like to be at the centre of one of the most pressurised positions in English football.
As the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship gets closer, with the opening ceremony set for 12th June, England, as one of the favourites to win the 60 year old tournament are in the media headlines as manager Gareth Southgate has a tough decision on his hands.
Pickford’s recent run of yoyo form has put the England manager in a quandary.
Does he bow to pressure and replace out-of-form Pickford with in-form Nick Pope or Dean Henderson?
According to the latest odds from UK bookmakers, Picked is still favourite to land the number one shirt going in to the competition.
Jordan Pickford has been slashed to 1/50 to be named in the England squad and 1/3 to be first choice keeper, with second favourite Nick Pope as second 1/10 favourite to be named and 7/2 to be first choice in Euro 2020. Dean Henderson is third favourite to be named in the squad at 1/4 and 11/2 to be selected as first choice goalkeeper.
Pickford spoke about what it is like playing for England and the pressure goalkeepers are under:
“Everyone hates you, for some reason, that’s part of being an England player, I think the press and everybody, the punters – look at Gary Neville – they just want to come for England players. You have got to live with it, you have got to learn. I know what I am capable of and I know what I am good at. Look at Joe Hart when he was number one. He got pelters every week.”
Pickford expanded on how important it is to regain his domestic form at Everton:
“You just keep it away from your head as the only person who can sort things out is yourself as an individual, on the pitch and in training. It’s looking after things on the pitch for Everton that is my main aim. That gets you picked for England. It’s funny because everyone raves about you when you are with England but then you get back to your club and everyone wants to slate you. As a person, I don’t let it affect me.”
Other betting markets that have been updated today include: Jordan Pickford 33/1 to be Golden Glove Winner this season and England 3/4 to be Croatia in their opening Euro 2020 match.
