UK – English boxing manager and promoter Frank Warren, who has promoted and managed top ranked boxers including Tyson Fury, has today said that a fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will happen following Fury’s heavyweight professional boxing rematch win against the then undefeated WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury both currently hold all of the sports belts for the heavyweight division after Fury claimed the WBC title from Wilder.
Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, son of the promoter Barry Hearn, said ‘this fight will happen’ after Frank Warren said:
“Of course we want to see the fight. We’ve been trying to make it for two years. Hearn kept saying was it’s got to be 70/30 in favour of AJ and so on and so forth. The tables have turned now. I have no problem with 50/50. I think Tyson would deserve more but 50/50, no problem.”
Frank Warren, who was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame added:
“This is about the boxers and more importantly the fans. If they want to see the fight we will make it happen. In the meantime Eddie Hearn is acting like the guy standing outside your house with his nose pressed up against the window and keeps spouting off about Tyson.”
However, it is uncertain when the fight between the two British heavyweights will happen after the American Deontay Wilder confirmed that he will trigger the rematch clause with the 31 year old Gypsy King.
Bookmakers in the UK and Europe have already slashed their odds on Tyson Fury being victorious over Anthony Joshua at odds of 1/2, whereas AJ is currently at 6/4.
Among the list of options in the betting market for Fury’s next opponent, Wilder is firm favourite at 2/9 as he is poised to trigger a rematch, with AJ in second favourite at 5/1.
