Casino hotel operator that owns and operates hotels and casinos in Macau through its subsidiary, Galaxy Casino S.A; Galaxy Entertainment Group, has today revealed that it has donated millions of dollars to mainland China to assist with the fight against Covid-19.
The Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation, which aims to ‘give back to Macau and the Greater China Region’, which usually focuses on ‘philanthropic activities which nurture young people’, made the cash donation directly to the ‘Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR’.
According to reports, the donation total was in the region of ten million dollars and aims to support healthcare workers by providing care and supplies, along with assisting medical and scientific research in tackling Coronavirus.
Lui Che Woo, Hong Kong business magnate, investor, and philanthropist, founder and chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group said:
“As a Chinese enterprise, GEG endeavours to support our country in its related efforts against the epidemic. With the virus being effectively controlled in mainland China by its implementation of various prevention measures, their successful experience serves as a valuable lesson for other countries battling with Covid-19.”
Lui, who is a member of the standing committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a political advisory body in the People’s Republic of China, added:
“We hope to further contribute to this fight against the epidemic by subsidising related institutions and specialists in mainland China to carry out the relevant scientific and medical research.”
The latest donation by the group takes the total beyond 25 million dollars combined in an ongoing battle against the pandemic.
