One of the leading bookmaker firms in the United States, William Hill US, has announced that it has struck a deal with Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos to open its first every sportsbook in Michigan, allowing a portion of the near 10 million population to wager on sporting events.

The long term deal will see the two companies join forces to provide betting services from Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel and Leelanau Sands Casino.

William Hill US will now become the exclusive partner of Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians to provide mobile sports betting and casino services, subject to pending regulatory approval.

Betting services at the Onyx Sports Book by William Hill in Leelanau Sands Casino will be available seven days a week.

To mark the momentous occasion, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place with Ernest L Stevens Jr – National Indian Gaming Association Chairman, and Rick Mahorn, an American retired NBA all-star who played power forward and centre.

Also in attendance for the celebrations were Dan Shapiro, VP of Strategy and Business Development for William Hill US, Tribal Vice-Chairman Mark Wilson of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Michael Schrader, CEO of Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos, Johnny Barrientoz, General Manager of Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel.

Dan Shapiro of William Hill commented on the launch:

“Today’s grand opening at Turtle Creek Casino officially marks the 13th state where William Hill now offers sports betting.

This is just the beginning of our partnership with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, with plans to launch mobile sports betting and iCasino gaming throughout Michigan as soon as permitted.

This is an exciting way to start the NFL season, and we know the Onyx Sports Book by William Hill will be the new game-day location for sports fans in Northern Michigan.”

Michael Schrader of Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos concluded with comments on the announcement:

“We are excited to align with William Hill, the leading sports betting company in the US.

They are the best in the business, and that’s always what we strive to give our guests.

We have an excellent, trained staff to assist customers with getting their bets down.

We want to provide the best destination for sports betting in the state, and with William Hill as our partner, that’s a bet we’re happy to take.

When Michigan regulations are permitted, we will be able to offer the best in online gaming and betting as well. This is truly a win-win for Northern Michigan.”
