It has been announced that new gambling advertising regulations are coming in to force in the United Kingdom and online casino operators are adjusting their marketing strategies and updating their terms and conditions to meet the new requirements.
All gambling brands that operate in the UK across different products will be required by law to update their marketing materials and ensure that partners, including gambling affiliates are complying with the new laws.
The new advertising regulations will apply to all gambling related marketing across multiple channels, including social media, radio and TV, and will apply to casino, bingo, sports betting, poker and other products where real money is wagered.
One of the primary changes to the gambling advertising laws is that adverts that appear on social media need to be clearly identifiable with an #ad hashtag, and all social media promotions must be targeted to consumers who are aged 25 and over.
In addition, gambling operators and partner companies will have to ensure that their marketing materials have links to safer gambling organisations BeGambleAware and GAMSTOP.
What’s more, any advertisement where a promotion or offer is present will need to show significant terms and conditions and a mandatory message for responsible gambling will be added, such as ‘Please gamble responsibly’.
Operators such as GVC Holdings, parent company of popular gambling brands including Ladbrokes, Coral, bwin and partypoker among others, are one of the first to act on the new regulations that will come in to effect.
