In a major and highly anticipated announcement, the Greek gambling authority; The Hellenic Gaming Commission, has today awarded MGE – Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment – a gambling license to legally operate the first integrated resort and casino in Greece, with the aim of boosting tourism and the economy.
The casino giant, a master in its development and operating of casino resorts around the world in nations such as South Korea, USA and Canada, has been selected by the HGC as the winning bid for the first IRC in partnership with GEK TERNA.
The resort plans include a state of the art luxury hotel, entertainment venue, convention centre, shopping complex, dining facilities and a casino.
INSPIRE Athens is the proposed name for the luxury casino resort and is expected to attract an ‘influx of international tourists and provide a significant contribution to the pioneering Hellinikon Project that will redefine the modern identity of Greece’.
Mario Kontomerkos of Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment commented on the news:

The project will help support the Greek economy and will boost employment by some 7000 within the region along with contributing million of Euros year on year to the government of Greece.
In addition, the new casino resort will help bring investment to the region along with more taxes, improvements to local infrastructure and public services.
According to reports, international tourism to the Attica region, an administrative region of Greece, is expected to grow by as much as ten percent.
