UK casinos re-open following Covid-19 closures

For the first time in 2021, UK casinos are re-opening their doors to customers following the prolonged shutdown closures due to Covid-19.

As a preventative measure, many businesses in the hospitality industry, including casinos, were forced to shut their doors to prevent the spread of infection.

Despite a series of measures being implemented last year, including perspex screens, face coverings and physical social distancing, casinos were unable to remain open during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic for fear that infection would spread more rapidly.

UK casinos, along with other venues within the hospitality sector, such as pubs and restaurants, have today re-opened their doors to customers and will welcome a flurry of patrons looking to enjoy some entertaining casino games, such as roulette, blackjack and slots among others.

Along with gambling on casino tables at local casinos, customers will also be able to enjoy food and drink within the venue, something that has been put on holiday for months.

However, despite being open to customers, casinos are still implementing a series of Covid-19 measures that gamblers will be required to follow in order to attend the premises, such as sanitizing hands, using face coverings and social distancing.

So what measures can people expect when visiting a casino following the momentous re-opening?

– Reduced capacity

– Limited seating at selected table games

– More spacing between gaming machines

– Perspex screens used in some areas of casino floors

– Face coverings worn by patrons and staff

– Limited seating in food and drink areas

– Shorter opening times, particularly in Scotland

In light of the re-opening of UK casinos across England, Wales and Scotland, Michael Dugher, the current chief executive officer of the Betting and Gaming Council commented:

It’s great news that most of the UK’s casinos are finally able to re-open – and is a testament to the hard work that staff have put in making them Covid-secure.

As well as providing excellent entertainment for their customers, casinos are a major contributor to the UK economy, something which will be vital in the months ahead as the Government tries to repair the damage done to the nation’s finances by Covid-19.

I am also delighted that the restrictions imposed on betting shops are being lifted.

Their safe re-opening in April has been a huge success and this is further reward for the efforts they have made to ensure their premises are Covid-secure.
