Rank Digital Gaming and Annexio fined by UKGC for social responsibility failures

It has been announced today by the UK Gambling Commission that two online casino operators have been fined a total of £1.3 million following investigations that revealed a series of social responsibility failures.

The operators, Rank Digital Gaming and Annexio, will pay regulatory settlements costs of £700,557 and £612,000 respectively for failures at the businesses.

Rank Digital Gaming (Alderney) Limited is a leading operator in the United Kingdom that trades under the brands bellacasino.com, grosvenorcasino.com, meccabingo.com and meccagames.com and was found to have social responsibility failures.

Annexio (Jersey) Limited is also a leading operator that trades under the brand lottogo.com and investigations concluded a series of failures including both social responsibility and money laundering.

The settlements paid by the operators will go directly to funding the reduction of gambling harms strategy, National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms, lead by the UK Gambling Commission that aims to prevent and educate, as well as treat and support those affected by gambling harms such as addiction.

Executive Director of the Gambling Commission Helen Venn commented on the online casino operators failures and consequences:

We expect high standards from operators to ensure gambling in Britain is safe and crime free.

Those businesses that fail to meet these standards will find themselves facing costly regulatory action.

A public statement has been released on the UKGC website that outlines the key failings of each operator, which include failure to comply with Social Responsibility Code Provisions and breach of Licence Conditions.

Following the penalty incurred, both operators will be required to review their own policies and make improvements regarding customer account management and adhere to good practice in the future.
