After A Spike In March, MGM Springfield Revenue Down In April

Citing seasonal disturbances, the MGM Springfield officials had said that they were not happy with the casino’s performance in terms of early returns after operations began in August last year.

They said that the extreme winter takes a toll on visitor turnout and as such the revenue suffered.

Though the casino revenue increased in March surpassing the revenue grossed in September last year when the casino was open for the first time for an entire month without any disruption.

However, the figures for April are once again disappointing for MGM Springfield. The revenue in the fourth month of the year has taken a hit as it fell by almost $4 million. The casino generated $21.8 million in April.

The most significant contributor to the decline in revenue was poor table game performance. It was the worst month for table games at the venue.

The casinos are taxed at 25 percent by the state. The casino paid around $5.5 million in taxes for April. Since its inception, the casino has spent approximately $47.5 million.

In a statement to the press, MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis said that he was satisfied with the performance. He also said that they are working towards increasing visitors, and as a part of the plan, the casino has increased bus service to bring in visitors from New York and Boston.
