After Hard Rock, Local Developer Reveals Plans For A Rockford Casino

A local developer Gorman & Company Inc. has revealed its plans to develop a downtown Rockford casino.

According to the reports that have emerged in the local media the company is currently developing Embassy Suites Hotel and Rockford Conference Center and is seeking partners to develop a casino establishment in the area after Gov. J.B Pritzker signed a massive gambling expansion bill allowing for six casinos at different locations in Illinois.

Chairman of Gorman & Company, Gary Gorman, reportedly said that they have an option under contract to acquire property south of the hotel complex they are developing at present. Revealing his plans for a Rockford casino establishment he said that the venue would host an entertainment complex and a casino that will be linked to the hotel via pedestrian walkways.

Talking to a local media outlet, Mr. Gorman said that academic data shows that “casinos are most successful when part of an integrated entertainment, restaurant, and activity district, creating a critical mass.”

Earlier in July, the city of Rockford initiated a Request for Proposals(RFP), for the upcoming casino.

Following the RFP process initiated by the city, casino and gambling giant Hard Rock International revealed its plans for a Rockford casino.
Announcing the plan for a Rockford casino Jim Allen, CEO, Hard Rock International, and Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen said that the gambling establishment would create 1,000 jobs for local contractors and approximately 1,200 full-time jobs.

There is no official request or proposal submitted so far. The Request For Proposals responses is due by 2 p.m. August 16. As such, gambling operators and developers have plenty of time.
