Online gambling operator The Stars Group which operates the popular PokerStars and SkyBet brands is now planning to lay off staff at its Malta office.
Recently, the gambling operator announced job cuts at its Isle of Man headquarters. The company had opened its Malta office back in 2012.
Amidst reports of job cuts at The Stars Malta office, there are rumors that several of the company’s customer service staff are to be relocated to Bulgaria. Also, unconfirmed reports suggest that some of the TSG’s Malta staff have already been relocated to the company’s Dublin office.
In its statement announcing the job cut, TSG said that they have “decided to review some potential changes to certain locations to better align our costs with our global growth strategy.”
Last week, The Stars Group (TSG) confirmed job cut at its Isle of Man (IOM) office. The online gambling operator did not specify the number of staff it will downsize. Its Isle of Man office employs about 400 people.
TSG said that the move to downsize the workforce was crucial “to deliver its mid-term growth targets and long-term sustainable growth.”
Earlier this month, Moneyval, a prominent Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism, said that Malta needs to do more to rein in the syndicates which are involved with financial crimes including money-laundering and terrorist financing.
