Arkansas: First Legal Sports Bet Placed At Oaklawn Racing

Arkansas was amongst the early adopters of sports betting legislation after the US Supreme Court allowed the US states to regulate sports betting last year.

It was in November 2018 that voters in Arkansas approved sports betting; however, it was only on Monday that the first legal sports bet was placed at Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The casino’s manager, Wayne Smith, placed the first legal sports bet at the establishment’s newly developed Race and Sportsbook.

Following the event, Arkansas has now joined the club of US states that offer sports betting operations – eighth since the US Supreme Court legalized sports betting in May 2018.

After the voters approved sports betting, the Arkansas Racing Commission approved the Oaklawn racing to launch sports betting operations from July 1.

Oaklawn casino website now says that “offers teller wagering as well as fast, user-friendly kiosks and is open seven days a week.”

SBTech is the gaming technology firm which has partnered with the Oaklawn Racing to help them operate sports betting facility at the venue.

Recently, SBTech has also been chosen by Oregon Lottery to offer sports betting services as the state plans to launch sports betting by September this year.
