Amidst all debates and discussions around consumer protection and liability of operators for problem gamblers, Denmark, is taking a step ahead by introducing a specific and refined code of conduct for the gambling industry.
The new code is intended towards creating a better gambling environment in terms of consumer protection and also making the Danish gambling industry more attentive and accountable for problem gamblers.
While the new code is still in its early stages, the road ahead involves discussion with the casino operators, authorities and other stakeholders. It is expected to come into effect from the beginning of July 2019.
The Law will hold good for the three sections of the gambling license holders.
– The License holders who are involved with online casino and betting and are affiliated to or are under the Danish Online Gambling Association.
– Those License holders who are associated with gaming machines and are affiliated to or are under Dansk Automat Brancheforening (Danish gaming machine industry association).
– The Land-based Casino license holders who are affiliated to or are under Dansk Kasinoforening (Danish Casino Association).
The new code has been welcomed by the Casino and gambling operators, and it has been developed with consent from all stakeholders. However, there may be revisions post discussion.
As the issue of compliance and problem gambling has been growing in Denmark over the years the need for a dedicated code of conduct for the gambling industry in Denmark was long due.
