Online casinos and gambling websites will be facing a class action lawsuit filed against them by players who are reclaiming the losses incurred over a period of past two and a half years.
OVWG, the Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling, has said that the gambling operators would have to contest the lawsuit on their own. The lawsuit is filed against the gambling operators who were offering online gambling without having the necessary permits to operate in Austria.
It is estimated that players who have filed the lawsuit lost sums to the tune of €3,000 over the past two and a half years.
The Vienna-based legal services company, AdvoFin claims that the customers who lost money with the online casinos have a legal base to get their refunds. The firm is positive about getting gambling operators to pay back the losses.
Casinos Austria, the gambling monopoly in the country is the only operator which has the legal authorization to offer gambling services across Austria. Other players in the Austrian gambling market are based out of other European countries and also North America.
The Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling has long held that they want an open online gambling market in the country. According to the association, the gambling operators who have a valid license in EU countries should be eligible to offer gambling services in Austria.
There has been a campaign to ban overseas gambling operators which are operating in the country without necessary permissions. As such, the authorities have been working towards banning unauthorized gambling operators.
