The online gambling market has been constantly expanding in Colombia. And this year the online gambling market has grown by almost two thirds in the first six months.
In its recent report, Colombia’s gambling regulatory body Coljuegos revealed that the state’s share in the online gambling revenue market has jumped by 63 percent year-on-year to COP29.8b (US$8.9m) in the six months ending June 30.
Online gambling now contributes 9.4 percent to the overall revenue of Coljuegos. The online ‘casino & bingo’ segment form the largest contributor at COP186.3m.
Colombia was the first Latin American country to regulate online gambling back in 2016. Coljuegos began issuing gambling licenses from July 2017 onwards.
Earlier this year in March, to make it easy for gamblers to locate licensed gambling facilities, Coljuegos released an online map that allows users to identify legal gambling facilities in any city across Colombia.
With the new map gamblers and players can now have access to all relevant information including name, address, and corporate identification number, along with the expiration date of the license acquired by the venue operator.
