Finnish Gambling Monopoly Veikkaus Appoints Several New Supervisory Board Members

Finland’s state-owned gambling monopoly Veikkaus has made several fresh appointments. The gambling operator has taken in several new supervisory board members as it is working towards amplifying and raising responsible gambling standards.

The company’s supervisory board is responsible for monitoring corporate governance and implementing responsible gambling measures. The board would be led by chair Jukka Gustafsson and vice-chair Jani Mäkelä.

There are a total of 28 members on the board. 13 members are representatives of various political parties and 13 representatives of Veikkaus’ stakeholders. There are two representatives from Veikkaus’ employees.

The first six months of 2019 have not been great for the state-run Finnish Gambling monopoly Veikkaus. It has been embroiled in controversies and had been facing criticisms for being lax in implementing social responsibility measures.

In its recent financial report, Veikkaus has posted a six percent decline in overall turnover during the first six months of 2019. The gambling monopoly reported a decline in turnover across most of its games. The company posted a turnover of €1,496.4 million for the first half. Turnover of lottery games was also down 6 percent year-on-year to €630.2 million.

The gambling monopoly is also planning to reduce the number of slot machines over the next few years.
