German Gambling Regulator Warns Betting Operators To Stop Online Gambling And Poker Offering Or Lose License

German sports gambling licensing authority, the Darmstadt Regional Council (DRC), representing the state of Hesse, has told the sports betting licensees that they stop offering any online gambling or poker or risk losing their betting license.

While the licensing process, following the new regulations, is being delayed, interim rules could come into effect by the beginning of the coming year.

In its statement, the regulator said: “Once the third amended State Treaty enters into force, sports betting providers that continue to operate in the German market without obtaining permission to do so can expect to be sanctioned.”

The regulator warns that “if a license application is not submitted to the Darmstadt Regional Council, we will immediately prohibit illegal operations.”

Germany has been strict on online gambling operations in the country. Recently, Paypal revised its terms of use in Germany. As per the revised terms, online gambling operators are prohibited from using Paypal’s online gambling platform to process payments for gambling products that are not legal in the jurisdiction in which they are being used.

It should be noted that online casino games are not legal in Germany except for the state of Schleswig-Holstein, as such, the use of Paypal for fund transfers related to online gambling in other parts of the country will not be possible anymore.
