A public hearing on the Waukegan Casino proposals is scheduled to be held at the Genesee Theater. Waukegan has received proposals from six prospective developers who will be presenting their proposals to the public at Genesee on Wednesday evening.
Earlier this year, Gov. J.B Pritzker signed a massive gambling expansion bill allowing for six casinos at different locations in the state. The new casinos are allowed for Waukegan, Chicago, Rockford, Danville, Williamson County, and Cook county.
Waukegan has received six proposals and the city council has already revealed the names of the parties. Six companies vying for a Waukegan casino contract are Rivers Casino Des Plaines, Waukegan Gaming LLC, Waukegan Development Associates LLC, Next Realty LLC, Chesapeake Gaming Group, and Milwaukee-based Potawatomi Hotel and Casino and Lakeside Casino LLC.
The public hearing where the proposals will be presented before the public will start at 4 P.M Wednesday. After listening to the presentation, the members from the public will also get a chance to offer their comments about the proposals.
There have been prospective developers showing interest in a casino project in 5 of the six locations allowed by the gambling expansion bill. However, the Chicago casino has been deemed not feasible after a study was conducted to determine the same by Union Gaming.
Calling for changes to the tax structure, earlier this week, on Monday, a five-person Gaming Board passed the resolution to that effect. While the Board hasn’t made any particular recommendations as to what changes it seeks, it is clear that they want the laws and tax policies to be relaxed to make a casino project feasible for investors in Chicago.
