The city of Rockford has received three casino proposals before a 2 p.m. deadline on Friday. The proposals received within the deadline will be considered.
Rockford has also hired two consulting firms to assist in the evaluation and approval process of the proposals. The two firms are Union Gaming Analytics, LLC and Taft Stetinius & Hollister LLP. The companies will also represent Rockford in negotiations.
Earlier this month, the city council had extended the timeline for casinos to tender their proposals. The previous the deadline to submit a proposal was Friday, August 16.
Explaining the move to extend the deadline, the City Council said that their original deadline only provided investors with a 44 days window to draft and submit a proposal which was way below the industry standards. With the extended deadline, interested parties had 58 days to plan and submit their proposals.
Hard Rock International has submitted its proposal for a Rockford casino. Hard Rock International Chairman Jim Allen said the casino would create 1,200 permanent jobs and another 1,000 during construction.
Rock River West Casino Group, headed up by construction firm Gorman and Company, has also tendered its proposal for a Rockford casino. The third company vying for a Rockford casino contract is Luna Entertainment.
Earlier this year, Gov. J.B Pritzker signed a massive gambling expansion which allows for six casinos at different locations in Illinois including Waukegan, Chicago, Rockford, Danville, Williamson County, and Cook county.
