The Grosvenor Casino has managed to get an extended gambling license to operate gambling machines in the outdoor smoking area.
Earlier the casino had sought the Leeds City Council to allow them to move gambling facilities to an outdoor smoking area. This was a part of the expansion of the gambling facilities at the venue.
The council has approved the license and permission for outdoor gambling operations.
While the permission has been granted, several lawmakers opposed the decision as they said that it would further promote gambling.
Councilor Karen Bruce in his statement to a local media channel said that, “By placing gambling equipment in outer areas where people may be cooling off from gambling, where people cannot escape from the machines is unacceptable and could contribute to problem gambling which has knock-on effects in lots of areas including impacts on crime and untold impacts on children and families.”
The casino in its request for expansion cited how other casinos had similar facilities in the outdoor area.
Grosvenor representatives also said that despite having gambling machines in the outdoor smoking area they would also have a smoking area as it is.
