More Americans In Favour Of Pro Sports Betting Than College Games

A new survey report asking Americans of their opinion about the sports wagering reveals that more Americans are in favor of betting on professional sports tournaments than college events like the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The survey also indicates that almost one in every three American bets occasionally with friends or co-workers.

The poll survey was conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and results were published on Wednesday, this week.

According to the survey, only 42 percent think that college betting is fine while around 60 percent want professional sports betting to be legalized and not college games.

It is the first time that sports betting is offered on college basketball tournament; after the Supreme Court made it legal last year. It was discretionary, as the states could choose whether they want to allow sports betting. At present, 8 US states including Delaware, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and New Mexico entertain sports betting.

However, these figures may change drastically in the coming years. According to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, in the next three years over 30 other states may join hands with those allowing sports betting. Last week, they had also estimated that the “March Madness” the NCCA college level basketball tournament would generate revenue worth $15.2 billion.

The polls show that while there are 69 percent supporting betting on professional sports only 52 percent say the same for college tournaments. Those who are involved with betting; 50 percent favor betting on professional sports events compared to just 38 percent for college-level competitions.

Also, more men are in favor of betting than women. While 65 percent of men support betting on professional games only 56 percent of women share their opinion.
