More Ukrainians Support President’s Move To Legalize Gambling By December 2019

Newly elected Ukranian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has already announced that he is committed to legalizing gambling in the country. Now a survey finds that there are more people in support of the President’s move.

A study the Razumkov Center sociological service found that around 47 percent Ukrainians fully support the President’s proposal regarding the adoption of a draft law on the de-shadowing and legalization of gambling by the year-end. Only 34 percent are not in favor of gambling legalization.

The study involved 2,018 participants from all states of Ukraine. The participants were above 18 years of age.

Also, about 66% of respondents support the adoption of the [draft] law introduced by the president on the de-shadowing and legalization of amber production by December 1, 2019.

Since 2009, in Ukraine, gambling remains illegal in all its forms following the ‘Prohibition of Gambling Law’ sanctioned by the Viktor Yushchenko administration.

Zelensky has just completed his first 100 days as president and the changes he has promised are not easy to implement.

Last month, speaking at the Ukrainian-Turkish business forum in Istanbul, Zelensky said: “We will legalize gambling, namely the operation of casinos in five-star hotels, which will stimulate the development of the tourism cluster of the region near the Black Sea. Here we also want to grow together. Therefore, we want to see our partners in Turkey’s business, not rivals.”
