NatWest Collaborates With GamCare To Launch ‘Walk-in Consultation’ Pilot Scheme For Gambling Addicts

NatWest bank has partnered with GamCare to launch a pilot scheme to offer counselling sessions to gambling addicts and those vulnerable at its branches across the UK.

NatWest is to launch the GamCare’s scheme across 13 branches based in London, the South East and Midlands of England.

As a part of the initiative, those seeking counselling would be able to walk in and book an appointment with a GamCare counsellor at NatWest’s branches.

“Some customers might be uncomfortable going to an addiction centre,” said NatWest’s Head of Lending, Phil Sheehy. “This is an accessible and neutral environment.”

Upon the successful completion of the pilot scheme, Natwest would launch it across its 700 branches.

Should the scheme prove to be a success, NatWest may move to launch the directive across its 700 branches.

Mike Kenward, Development Director of GamCare, said: “The relationship between problem gambling and financial problems is well established, although not enough is known about it.”

UK gambling charity GamCare recently said that they have received better funding in 2019 so far but it is still not enough.

The charity revealed that it was promised and has received £5.4m by the gambling operators during the six months to September 30. When compared with the funds the charity had received by the end of the second quarter the previous fiscal, the current year figures fare better.

In the last fiscal, GambleAware received £9.6m in total.
